Melené and I got a chance to visit with our friend (and her second cousin), Suzanne. We used to work with Suzanne at the library in college... in fact when I first met Suzanne one of the first things we'd talked about was spending our weekend at a family reunion - it ended up being the same family reunion.. so we've gotten to keep in touch and catch up every year since then.
The boys love the races. They just do simple running races by age. It's hilarious. Charlie has been training Jack for months - we race everywhere and doing everything. So, while the other one-year-olds stood at the starting line looking confused - Jack totally smoked them.
Charlie was in a dead-heat with another 3-year-old boy and I think it was a tie (at the end you'll notice he looks over to see if he's catching up).
The food is one of the best parts. We have an enormous potluck lunch where everyone brings their best dishes. This year they compiled a Ball Family cookbook. Then later for dinner in addition to the grilled hamburgers and hot dogs they fry up some fresh lamb chops, grill corn on the cob, and do dutch oven potatoes. It's all served with the traditional raspberries and cream and home made ice cream for dessert.
Jack was so tired by dinner time that he started falling asleep while he was eating the lamb chops... but they tasted so good he would not spit them out. Here's the video of it...
